What to Pack for a Trip to Guangzhou

Having surveyed our travel guides, our travel consultants, and the locals in Guangzhou, we know personally to bring you this information. If you have a trip to Beijing coming up, and you want to fit in, here are some useful suggestions for you.

Guangzhou weather can be quite wet from April through to September, so if visiting during these months, bring spare clothes and some form of protection against the rain. Although the temperature even during the coldest parts of the year rarely hits below 10°C, a limited amount of warm clothing is recommended between December and January.

Since the air-conditioning in hotels and restaurants can be fierce, travelers had better bring light clothing, but include layers – light jackets, cardigans etc.. It’s worth bringing something to shield against the sun which can also be severe at times. Local people often favor using an umbrella for this, but sunglasses and sunscreen will also be fine.

Chinese locals often dress fairly informally. A simple suit or day dress is appropriate for all official visits, meetings and dinners, and in hot weather a short sleeved shirt with no jacket is perfectly acceptable business attire. Trousers are also perfectly acceptable for women. Generally there aren’t any rules about leisure wear, with almost anything being acceptable. However, for foreigners, the more extravagant your outfit the more attention you might attract. Low cut and sleeveless tops, while not objectionable, might prove to be a point of fascination.
