Huangyao Ancient Town

Located in the northeast of Zhaoping County, Hezhou City, 200 km away from Guilin, Huangyao Ancient Town is reputed as the “home of dreamland” for its beautiful karst landform and ancient buildings. The family names of the residents in the town are only Huang and Yao, hence the name of the town.

Huangyao Ancient Town has a history of more than 400 years and is a famous photographing destination. It was built during the reign of Emperor Wanli (1573-1620) of the Ming Dynasty (1368 – 1644), and reached its prime during the reign of Emperor Qianlong (1736-1795) of the Qing Dynasty (1644-1911). The town has 20 temples, 10 pavilions and some halls, bridges and theater stages, which were all constructed in the Ming Dynasty. The town’s streets are paved with blue flagstones, and the houses features Southern China’s style displaying the primitive simplicity with blue bricks and black tiles.

Huangyao Ancient Town has been popular with the foreign travelers these years for its incredible pictures are posted on the internet by some Chinese photographers. The travelers usually trip to Huangyao via Yangshuo (120 km) for one day excursion or stay one night there.
