Heilongjiang Provincial Museum

Heilongjiang Provincial Museum is a large comprehensive provincial museum, located in the No.46 Red Army Street of Harbin City. It is a science center for custody, study and exhibition of the history, cultural relics, art and animal of Heilongjiang. Heilongjiang Provincial Museum is listed as first grade building in Harbin and the provincial cultural relic protection units. In 1962, Mr. Guo Moruo inscribed the name of the Museum.

The Gate of Heilongjiang Provincial Museum

Heilongjiang Provincial Museum covers a construction area of over 7000 square meters. The main building was a classical Russian style building built in 1904, which stands a tower spire. The museum has an exhibition area of 3,000 square meters (including temporary exhibitions) and a warehouse area of nearly 3000 square meters. The Museum has Nature Department, History Department, Custody Department, Mass Work Department, Display Production Department, Office, Business Technology Room, and Collective Enterprises Rican, attached to a Service.

The museum was originally built as Moscow mall by the Russians in 1904. In1922, it initiated by the Russians to establish Provincial Cultural Relics Research Council, and prepared to set up a museum on the premises. The museum once was managed by the Russians and Japanese. In 1951, People's Government took over it and renamed "Songjiang Science Museum".

Heilongjiang Provincial Museum has more than 107,400 pieces specimens of cultural relics, including 84 first level collections and 1 first level specimen. In addition, there are more than 40,000 volumes of books. There are many collections of natural specimens, there are more than 70,000 items specimens of rocks, minerals, soils, flora and fauna and paleontological. And there are more than 30,000 pieces of historical artifacts, paintings and other ethnic heritage. Jin Dynasty(1115-1234) and Hoche artifacts are more abundant. The paintings focus on modernization; there are many famous collections of works by artist Pan Tianshou. The masterpiece of early prints "Great Northern Wilderness" is the collection features.

Now, the New Heilongjiang Provincial Museum is under construction .The new museum is located in Moon Bay, Songbei District of Harbin City , planning cover an area of 120,000 square meters, with a construction area of 50,000 square meters. After the New Heilongjiang Provincial Museum completed, it will become a leader in Heilongjiang province and it will be the domestic first-class cultural art gallery.
