Mausoleum of the First Emperor Qin

Situated in Lintong District of Xi'an, the Mausoleum of the First Emperor of the Qin is the first imperial mausoleum in China.

The First Emperor of Qin, named Ying Zheng, was the first emperor in Chinese history. He conquered the other kingdoms of his time and eventually unified for the first time with a centralized government.

There are a great number of attendant burial pits with very rich contents. In the recent years, there have been several major archaeological discoveries around the mausoleum. In the southern part of the mausoleum area, the archeologists have found large-scale stone armors, a pit containing acrobat figurines and a pit with civil official figurines. The excavation and cataloguing of these sites are under the way, and the artifacts will be put on exhibition in the near future.

Visitors to the Mausoleum of the First Emperor may see the tomb mound, the pits where the bronze chariots have been excavated, the remains of the drainage system, the bronze bas-relief, and pictures and literature on the information boards. Recently, 22 groups of outdoor exhibition platforms have been set up to display unearthed artifacts like bronze bells, eaves tiles, iron objects and weapons, etc.
