Mao Zedong's Former Residence

This is the first building you come to as you reach Shaoshan, and it is the village's principal shrine. It's a fairly large structure with mud walls and a thatched roof. It's no different from millions of other mud-brick dwellings in China, except for the painstaking restoration. Exhibits include a few kitchen utensils and original furnishings and bedding, as well as photos of Mao's parents. In front of the house is a pond, and on the other side is a pavilion where tourists pose for photos with the house in the background.
