Changde

Changde City, formerly called Wuling, is in northwestern Hunan Province. It borders Zhangjiajie in the west and the Dongtinghu Plain in the east. It is known as a land of plenty and tourist attractions. Among its major scenic spots are the Land of Peach Blossoms and the Jiashan Temple.

Land of Peach Blossoms

Situated in Taoyuan County, the Land of Peach Blossoms is 43 km away from the city proper of Changde. It faces the Yuan River and leans against the Wuling peaks. Ancient trees, slim bamboos and wild flowers make it a fairyland. It is said the land used to be where local people escaped from warfare in the Qin Dynasty. Tao Yuanming, a prestigious poet of the Eastern Jin Dynasty, wrote the prose Note for the Land of Peach Blossoms, making it destination admired by more tourists. Scenic spots include the Chrysanthemum Nursery and the Taohua Taoist Temple.

Taoyuan Village

This is a newly developed travel program according to Tao Yuanming’s Note for the Land of Peach Blossoms. Featuring typical countryside scenes and harmonious neighborhood, the village represents the utopia described in the prose. As you visit a local residence, hospitable host will first present a cup of tea and then feast you with a dinner of rural flavor. The host may also entertain you with a local drum dance during the dinner. If you are interested, you can gather vegetables or go fishing together with the host.
