Forbidden City

Forbidden City, as the palace of the Ming and Qing dynasties, is located in the center of Beijing city; there are 24 emperors in the reign power there successively. It was founded in 1406, has been nearly 600 years up to now. The Forbidden City is one of the world's largest and most complete existing ancient wooden buildings, covers an area of 720,000 square meters, construction area of about 150,000 square meters and has more than 9,000 houses.

The buildings of the Forbidden City fully embody the artistic features and style of ancient Chinese palace architecture, and can be called a masterpiece in Chinese, even world, architectural history. Today, as the largest museum of cultural relics in China, the Forbidden City, also called the Palace Museum, collected and displayed some one million precious historical relics from the Shang Dynasty (16th century -771 BC) through to the Qing Dynasty. The Forbidden City was declared a World Heritage Site in 1987,and is listed by UNESCO as the largest collection of preserved ancient wooden structures in the world.
