Mt.Wanfoshan & Dong Village National Park

Mt.Wanfoshan & Dong Village National Park, which is praised as a National Natural Heritage of China and a nominated site of World Natural Heritage, is located in Tongdao Dong Nationality Autonomous County, southeast to Hunan, China. It covers 168 km2 and consists of Danxia landform area, Dong culture corridor and Gongcheng Ancient School relic (a meeting site of Tongdao Transfer of Chinese Red Army).

There are 46 scenic sites and 510 geological heritages in Wanfoshan Danxia area, mainly including the scenic areas of Wanfoshan Mountain, General Hill, Immortal Cave, Isolated Peak, Jade Belt River and so on. The marvelous Danxia peak forest-cluster is born through the geological evolution for billions of years, which form graceful attractions of red hills and clean water.

Dong culture corridor is composed of over 20 Dong villages along Pingtan River. It is considered as a secret land in which maintains exquisite Dong architectures, the completes and typicallest original Dong culture. The pristine Dong custom and primitive Dong villages, combined with unique natural Danxia landscapes, form a wonderful fairyland.

Wanfoshan area was first inhabited roughly 4000 years ago, as Dahuang relic has been found in the area. In modern China history, “Tongdao Meeting” was held here by Chinese Red Army, Which is a quite important transfer of the victory of the Chinese Revolution. The meeting site, called Gongcheng Ancient School, Xiaoshui Battle Monument and the cemetery of Chinese Red Army Martyrs have left to remind us of the history.
