At 11:05 on May 29, Flight MU9197 by China's first domestically-manufactured large passenger jet C919 landed smoothly at Chengdu Tianfu International Airport. This flight, with 135 passengers on board, took off from Shanghai Hongqiao International Airport at 8:25. This is the first time that a C919 jet has arrived in Chengdu with passengers, commencing its commercial operation on a regular basis.

On the same day, the C919 airliner departed from Chengdu with passengers at 12:45 and arrived in Shanghai at 14:59, successfully completing its first day of regular commercial operation.

C919 aircraft is the first jet type trunk liner independently developed by China in accordance with international airworthiness standards and owning independent intellectual property right. The C919 project was launched in 2007, with the maiden flight accomplished in 2017. On September 29, 2022, C919 aircraft obtained Type Certificate from Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC). On December 9, 2022, the plane with the registration number B-919A was delivered to China Eastern Airlines Co., Ltd. (CEA). As the first C919 jetliner delivered worldwide, it was approved by CAAC for commercial operation after more than five months of verification test flights and passenger operations' verifications.

On May 28, C919 aircraft flew from Shanghai to Beijing with passengers for the first time, completing its maiden commercial flight. Besides Airbus (A) and Boeing (B), Comac (C) has entered the civil aviation market.

As of now, C919 aircraft has only started its regular flight between Shanghai and Chengdu. Flight MU9197/8 makes a round trip between Shanghai Hongqiao International Airport and Chengdu Tianfu International Airport every day, taking about three hours each way. At present, tickets for this flight before June 30 (inclusive) can be purchased through online platforms. Except for holidays, an economy class ticket usually costs 900 yuan or so.
