Simatai Great Wall Scenic Area

The Great Wall is one of the magnificent constructions in ancient China.

Defensive walls were built by dukes on their own dukedoms during the Warring States Period (475-221 B.C.) to ward off Huns. After China was unified by the Qin Dynasty (221-206 B.C.), these walls were connected section by section into the 10,000-li Great Wall. Reconstructions were carried out in subsequent dynasties and the present Great Wall was built on the site in the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644 A.D.). It stretches more than 6,000 kilometers from the Shanhaiguan Pass in the East to the Jiayuguan Pass in the West, spanning seven provinces, municipalities and autonomous regions in Northen China.
