Jiqing Lou-Fujian Chuxi Tulou Cluster

Jiqing Lou, Xus' residence, was constructed in the year between 1403 and 1424, under the reign of Emperor Yongle in the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644). This double-ring circular building faces the north and covers an area of 2,826 square meters. The outer ring is 4 stories high and 66 meters in diameter, with 56 rooms on each floor. The interior corridor, originally designed to be through, was later reconstructed to be unit-style from the second floor to the top. Each unit has its own stairways, with wood boards, separating the corridors. The inner ring is one story high. The overall structural frame of the building is a combination of post-lintel and column0tie construction with overhanging gable roof. The square-shaped ancestral hall is situated in the very center of the interior courtyard. In May 2006, Jiqing Lou was listed among key relic units proteced under national level.
