Zhima Tibetan Village

Zhima Tibetan Village is located in northwest of Jiuzhaogou County of the Ngawa Tibetan and Qiang Autonomous Prefecture, Sichuan Province. "Zhima"(sesame) literally means brave and forthright in Tibetan language. More than a thousand years ago some Tibetan pioneers trudged here from Ali Area to live and multiply on this land. They were often raid by the rogues for living dispersed. Thus, the brave and expansive tribe garrisoned here and became a strategic pass defense tribe in the Heihe River basin of Jiuzhaigou County, who are famous for their brave and forthright.

With the latest development of cultural and eco-tourism, this poor and remote Tibetan mountain village has typically been both a yak herding and subsistence farming community. Its remoteness has ensured the local culture has remained intact and now they have opened to eco-tourists from around the world. Camp in the beautiful river-side campsite, sit around the camp fire by the old stupa and prepare for one, two or three day hikes or horse treks in the surrounding mountains. There are numerous trails traditionally used by yak herders and a pilgrimage trail around the sacred mountain behind the local monastery.

Zhima Tibetan Village is surrounding by the primeval forest. This charming village is just 2-hour drive from Jiuzhaigou Valley on the alternative route to Ruo Er Gai. It is an ideal place for solo and small tour group to enjoy sightseeing, exploring, painting, photographing, and experience the original Tibetan culture and folk customs.
