Climate of Xi’an

Located in the center of the Guanzhong Plains, circled by Mountains in the south and the Wei River in the north, Xi’an has a typical sub-humid and warm temperate monsoon climate of medium latitudes, which is influenced by the East Asian monsoon.

Xi’an has four distinct seasons: Summer is hot and pluvious while winter is cold but seldom snowy. In spring and fall, the drizzly weather sometimes maybe has a long duration. The mean yearly temperature of Xi'an is 14.1℃, with January the coldest month being -1.3℃ on average and July the hottest month coming in 26.7℃ on average. The yearly average rainfall is 604.2 mm, frequent in July, August and September. The annual average relative humidity is about 70%. Every year, the naschi (northeaster) is blown in Xi'an, and it is a prevailing wind direction in this area, the annual mean wind velocity usually reaches 1.8 m/s.
