Transportation in Xi'an

Xi'an, the capital city of Shaanxi, is the political, educational and cultural centre of the province. It is also the world famous historical and cultural city. It is a transportation hub with a well-developed transportation system in central-northwest China. Travelers can get there by airplane, train and long-distance bus. 

Getting there

◎By Plane

Xi'an's main airport is Xi'an Xianyang International Airport, situated in the outskirts of xianyang, 47 km away from the downtown. It has many international and domestic flights with connections to all wind directions that can reach most cities of world.

Hong Kong, Nagoya, Phuket, Seoul, Singapore, Taipei-Taoyuan, Tokyo-Narita, Helsinki (seasonal), Siem Reap (charter), Jeju (charter)

Beijing, Chengdu, Chongqing, Guilin, Dunhuang, Fuzhou, Guangzhou, Harbin, Hangzhou, Hohhot, Kunming, Lhasa, Lanzhou, Nanjing, Shanghai, Shenzhen, Urumqi, Wuhan, Xining, Zhangjiajie, and many other China cities.

◎By Train

Xi'an railway station is located at the north end of Jiefang road, just outside the northeast city wall; about 30 minutes drive from the downtown. There are many railway transportations with connections to all wind directions that can reach most cities of China, such as Beijing, Shanghai, Chengdu, Guangzhou, Chongqing, Kunming, Lanzhou, Lhasa, Urumqi, Wuhan and Zhengzhou. Details as the following: 

To Beijing- takes about 5-13 hours.

To Shanghai- takes about 11-20 hours.

To Chengdu- takes about 13-18 hours.

To Guangzhou- takes about 8-24 hours.

To Chongqing- takes about 14 hours.

To Kunming- takes about 36-53 hours.

To Lanzhou- takes about 8-10 hours.

To Lhasa- takes about 36 hours.

To Urumqi- takes about 31-56 hours.

To Wuhan- takes about 4-18 hours.

To Zhengzhou- takes about 2-6 hours.

Tips: It will cost 11RMB from downtown to railway station by taking a taxi.

◎By Coach

Xi'an is second-largest highway transport hub in china, only second to Beijig. The main long distance bus station is Shaanxi Province Long-distance Bus Station, is opposite the railway station in the northeast of the city. Bus service is available to Huashan, Lanzhou, Luoyang, Taiyuan, Zhengzhou, Yinchuan, etc. Details as the following: 

To Huashan- takes about 2-3 hours.

To Lanzhou- takes about 8-10 hours.

To Luoyang- takes about 5-7 hours.

To Taiyuan- takes about 12 hours.

To Zhengzhou- takes about 9-12 hours.

To Yinchuan- takes about 15 hours.

Getting around

◎By Bicycle

Bicycle is a very popular way to get around the city and Xi’an City Wall. Bike lanes are available on some streets.

◎By Bus

Bus is a very convenient way to get around the city. Regular buses within the city cost ¥1 (¥2 for air-conditioned, marked with a snow-flake).

◎By Taxi

Taxi is also a good way to travel around. The rate for the normal (green) taxis is ¥6 for the first 2 kilometer and then ¥1.5 for every additional kilometer. Waiting times longer than 2 minutes will be charged ¥1.5 per minute.
