What to Pack for a Trip to Xi'an

Located in the hinterland of China mainland, Xi’an is warm temperate semi-humid monsoon climate, with moderate rainfall and four distinct seasons. The annual maximum temperature is around 40 ℃ and the annual lowest temperature is around -8 ℃. The average frost-free period is 219 to 233 days. January is the coldest, with an average temperature of -0.5 ℃ - 1.3 ℃; July is the hottest, with an average temperature of 26.3 ℃ - 27 ℃; and the annual average temperature is 13.6 ℃.

Xi'an has large diurnal temperature throughout the year. The temperature is lower in morning and evening, but higher during daytime, which daily temperature difference is above 10 ℃.

Spring

Spring of Xi'an is from March to May. It holds a warm climate which temperature is 6 ℃ - 20 ℃and most of the time is sunny day. Long trousers and jackets are suitable in this season and one or two sweaters for alternating are necessities. 

Summer

About June to August, summer comes to Xi'an, when temperature is 15 ℃ - 26 ℃, cooler in morning and evening while hotter and strong ultraviolet radiation during the day. July and August are the rainy season. The suggested dresses in this season are T-shirts and trousers, and sunscreen and sunglasses should be prepared. When in rainy day, the temperature is in about 10-20 degrees, which T-shirts, trousers with jackets is suitable, and remembers to bring rain gear.

Autumn

In autumn (from September to November), the temperature is 10 ℃ - 23 ℃ and it is mostly in rainy day, so T-shirts with trousers is comfortable and thin coats, sweaters are both required. In addition, remember bring an umbrella when go out.

Winter

In winter (from December to February), the Xi'an weather becomes cold and snowy. The temperature is 10 ℃ - 23 ℃. Thus, down coats, hats, gloves, scarves, masks, etc. are the necessities.
