Longyan

Longyan, also known as Minxi, is to the northwest of Xiamen. In the first year of the Tianbao reign (742) of the Tang Dynasty, Longyan County was named after Longyan Cave, a scenic spot in the east. To eluded endless disputes, the Han people in Central China moved to Fujian from the end of Western Jin Dynasty (265-316), giving birth to the Hakkas. All the Hakkas take Longyan as the milestone place where their ancestors said good-bye to Central China and became the Hakkas during their cultural trip. Old town of Changting has been known as the "capital of the Hakkas," and the Tingjiang River is regarded as the Mother River by the Hakkas. The main tourist attractions in Longyan include Yongding earth buildings, Old Town of Changting on the mountain, and enclosed round houses of the Song and Ming dynasties in Changting. The transportation in Longyan is convenient, and the scheduled flights go from Liancheng Airport to Shanghai. Rich in natural resources, Longyan is the main mining and forest areas, and Guanzhi Mountain is a famous scenic spot in Longyan.

Hakka Earth Buildings in Yongding               

Spread all over Yongding County, earth buildings (Tulou) are civilian residences of the Hakkas in mountain villages. They enjoy a high popularity because of long history, unique style. large scale and exquisite structures. There are two types of earth buildings: round and square. Yongding County has 360 round earth buildings and over 4,000 square earth buildings. Usually an ordinary square earth building has two to three stories; and round earth buildings are the models of the Hakka civilian residences. A round earth building has two to three circles, and each circle is closely linked with another. The outer circle is more than 10 meters high and has three to four stories, and 100 to 200 rooms. The dining room and kitchen are on the first floor; the warehouses on the second floor; and bedrooms on the third and fourth floor. The two-story inner circle has 30 to 50 rooms, which are mainly used as guestrooms. The Ancestral Hall is in the center, which is the public area for holding the wedding and funeral ceremonies and celebrations. Wells. bathrooms and mills can also be found in the earth building. The earth building is constructed with rammed earth, without reinforced concrete, and has many functions, such as earthquake-resistance, fireproof and defense, plus good ventilation and natural lighting, which are cool in summers and warm in winters. Many earth buildings are designed according to the Eight Diagrams. and Zhencheng Earth Building is a typical example.

Zhongshan Town with over 100 Surnames

Located to the southwest of Wuping. Zhongshan Town was a place of strategic importance in ancient times. Now local folk customers still show the style and characteristics of Central China in the past days. Zhongshan Town. with a circumference of 5 kilometers, is home to the people with 102 surnames in total. As one of the three major islands of Fujian local dialects. Zhongshan Town is known as the Solitary Island of Hakka Culture. The famous tourist attractions include Beating the Tiger with Seven Whips. Arched Bridge and Green Willow Tree, the 10-Mile Bamboo Forest, and Danjing Hot Spring, etc.

Peitian Civilian Residences

Located in Liancheng County, Peitian civilian residences of the Hakkas form a well-preserved ancient architectural complex of the Ming and Qing dynasties. mainly including six schools, two academies, three nunneries, two temples, two memorial archways, 20 ancient shrines, over 30 dwelling houses, a 1.000-meter-long ancient street, five lanes, and two ditches running through the village. All the architectural structures are built with wood and bricks.

Guanzhi Mountain

About 1 .5  kilometers cast of Liancheng County.  Guanzhi Mountain, also called Lotus Flower

Mountain, belongs to Danxia landform. The scenic zone covers an area of 123 square kilometers. and consists of four tourist attractions, i. e., Guanzhi Mountain, Shimen Lake, Zhu'an Village and Qishi Village, which is one of the 1 0 top scenic zones in Fujian because of its picturesque scenery.

Guanzhi Mountain was first developed in the Yuanyou reign (1086-1094) of the Song Dynasty. Tourists can find inscriptions on precipices by ancient celebrities, such as Ji Xiaolan (1724-1805, a famous scholar of the Qing Dynasty). and Lin Zexu (1784-1850. a politician of the end of the Qing Dynasty). and by modern distinguished personages, such as Zhao Puchu (1907-2000. a famous calligrapher and an expert on Buddhism), and Luo Dan (1904-1983, a famous calligrapher), as well as ancient towers, pavilions. kiosks and academies in the mountain.

Transport to Longyan

Luxury buses go from Xiamen Long-distance Bus station to Longyan regularly from 06:30am

to 20:OOpm, which takes about 2.5 hours, 55 yuan to 70 yuan a person. The K298 air-conditioned express train departing at 17:13pm from Xiamen to Guangzhou East Railway Station also goes to Longyan, which takes about 5 hours.
