Chu Jian Cypress

The cypress is said to have been planted by Xu Heng, Ji Jiu (the president) of Guo Zi Jian (the Imperial College) in the Yuan Dynasty over 700 years ago. Once, Yan Song, a wicked minister in the Ming Dynasty came to offer sacrifices to Confucius on behalf of the emperor. When he passed the cypress, a high wind sprang up and a branch, driven by the wind, lifted his black gauze that (worn by an imperial official to indicate his position). Later, the tree said to have the ability to distinguish wicked courtiers from loyal ones. Thus the tree was so named.
